Five Stars! Dr. Richard Graves exudes competency and confidence.
I visited Sol Foot & Ankle Centers for a foot injury and hematoma. Dr. Graves exudes competency and confidence. After three prior doctor visits with other physicians, I was so relieved to have someone that understood exactly what I was experiencing, and stepped up and took care of me. Thank you Dr. Graves! 5 StarsDenny P.
I was diagnosed with bone spurs that made it too painful for me to run. Dr. Graves understood how important it was for me to continue running as long as possible.
In the fall of 2009, I painfully (and visibly) noticed what Dr. Graves quickly and correctly diagnosed as bone spurs at the joint of my 1st metatarsal and big toe. This issue made it too painful for me to run. I'm very passionate about running, so is was an extremely troubling situation. Dr. Graves, clearly explained the diagnosis and prognosis. He asked me about my running passion, and understood how important it was for me to continue running as long as possible. Dr. Graves recommended approaching treatment conservatively by reducing my running for a while, then very gradually increasing it (all the while monitoring the bone spurs and the pain). This approach worked very well, and the pain dissipated. However the bone spurs, of course remained. The noticeable bump was still there, and the flexibility in the joint remained low. Knowing that there was the possibility or likelihood of the condition eventually worsening perhaps resulting in the fusing of the joint, I elected to have out-patient surgery to remove the bone spurs. Dr. Graves, assisted by Dr. Shirai, did an absolutely wonderful job. I've been running pain-free ever since! I've never received better care and understanding from any medical professional!!Steve S.
Dr. Richard Graves was so friendly and made the healing process quick and easy.
Five Stars! I had been in a car accident and I had strained my foot from bracing myself during impact. It was extremely painful and I could barely walk for a while before I came to see Dr. Graves. I could barely walk, my foot was swollen, and work was extremely difficult because I had to be on my feet all day. Dr. Graves was able to help me by giving me a temporary boot. The recovery was so much faster than I had expected. He was so friendly and made the healing process quick and easy.A.H. July 2015

Dr. Shirai is the best foot doctor. I travel from Texas to Long Beach 4 times a year - Dr. Shirai is my first appointment.
I recommend Dr. Mie Shirai as a podiatrist because she is such a caring and dedicated doctor. I was having pain on my toes when I first came to see Dr. Shirai at Sol Foot & Ankle Centers. All of my shoes had become so painful I was unable to wear them, including my boots, and I need to wear boots because I horseback ride frequently. After one visit with Dr. Shirai she made my toes soo much better - I can wear boots again! SHE IS THE BEST! I have and would definitely recommend Dr. Shirai as a podiatrist because she is such a caring and dedicated doctor. I live in Texas, and travel to California about 4 times a year... Dr. Shirai is my first appointment when I arrive!Denise S.

Dr. Shirai provided excellent treatment for my ulcers and was able to get the wounds healed quickly
Dr. Shirai is excellent! I was referred to Dr. Shirai by my primary care doctor because of diabetic foot ulcers. I had recently been hospitalized due to an infection from the foot ulcers and when I was released from the hospital I started seeing Dr. Shirai for treatment. She provided excellent treatment for my ulcers and was able to get the wounds healed quickly; she provided directions on how to care for my feet at home and even ordered custom diabetic shoes to prevent the ulcers from coming back. Overall, my treatment at Sol Foot & Ankle Centers has been great, and their staff is amazing too. They are always courteous, professional, and willing to help out. They get the job done right!John M.
I would recommend Dr. Richard Graves to anyone who is experiencing foot pain or just wants to have an expert help them keep their feet healthy.
Before finding Dr. Graves, I had been seeing another podiatrist in Long Beach for several years. This doctor had helped me by designing a pair of orthotics around 7 years ago and they have given me much relief. I still wear these orthotics in every pair of shoes I own. ln the fall of 2012, I began to notice that I had some discomfort in my right foot and so I returned to this doctor to see if my orthotics might need some "tuning up". At first he told me that the problem was that my shoes did not fit and he used a tool to stretch out my shoes. However, as I was leaving his office he thought better and had me come back in for an x-ray just in case there was something else going on. This x-ray revealed that I had bone spurs on my right big toe and that they were actually the source of the pain I was experiencing. While I had been satisfied with my previous doctor's work, his indecision in this case together with his odd sense of humor and gruff manner lead me to look for a second opinion. My research on the internet took me to the office of Dr. Richard Graves. The very positive patient reviews and his history as a runner at UCI and podiatrist for the athletes at UCI helped me to have confidence in Dr. Graves' ability to help me. I like to play baseball and need to be able to run and stay fit in order to compete. From my conversations with Dr. Graves I could tell that he understands exactly what is at stake for me in finding the right podiatrist. He also noticed from my x-ray that I did not just have bone spurs but that my situation was complicated by the fact that my big toe joint was completely arthritic. In my case he recommended a surgery to not only remove the bone spurs but to also repair the joint. Without the repair of the joint I would most likely be back in a couple of years to have those spurs removed again. I am now almost 15 months post surgery and able to do everything I could do before the bone spurs began to bother me. Twelve months after my surgery, I played in a 5 day baseball tournament and my feet did not give me any discomfort whatsoever. In short, I would recommend Dr. Richard Graves to anyone who is experiencing foot pain or just wants to have an expert help them keep their feet healthy.MSM
My feet are in the best shape they have been in years after receiving treatment from Dr. Richard Graves
I first came to Dr. Graves due to my ankles feeling sore and swollen. Since I was a competitive athlete and in good physical shape, my pain was a mystery. After an examination, it was revealed I had some unusual bone growth in that area. Sounds exciting, I know. Significant surgery was performed, and now my feet are in the best shape they have been in years! Nothing is worse than sore feet. Thank you Dr. Graves for adding comfort to my daily life! P.S. The staff is amazing! Always laughingBarbara
